Essential Parts To Get Your KX 250 F MX Race Ready
Introduction to the KX 250 F
Kawasaki brought out the KX 250 F in 2004 and this four stroke has featured in AMA and FIM Supercross and Motocross events ever since. We acquired a 2021 KX 250 F and used it as a project bike to develop a range of protection and performance parts for it. Below we have documented the AS3 Performance parts available for KX 250 F and how they improve the bike, with pictures and descriptions.
Clutch Cover
A billet aluminium clutch cover is a crucial upgrade for motocross - it protects an area of the bike that’s highly exposed and susceptible to damage from rocks and stones, plus other hazards whilst racing, like the other mx bikes. Our clutch cover for the KX 250 F is CNC-machined from a solid block of 6061 billet aluminium, offering significantly greater strength compared to the OEM cover. It also features an increased oil capacity of 626ml - an improvement of 7% over the stock 584ml. Front Brake & Clutch Levers
We have developed a set of flexible (“flexi”) front brake and clutch levers - also known as pivot or snap-back levers - to fit the KX 250 F. They are made from aluminium, with forged levers and CNC-machined mounting points for strength and precision. The pivot design allows the levers to fold outward on impact, helping to prevent breakage or snapping, which can easily happen with OEM levers in tough enduro conditions. The levers also feature adjustable reach, so riders can set them to their preferred distance from the bars. These are available in black (pictured below), green and blue, with a Factory Series front brake and clutch lever option also available - in green, red, blue and black. Because brake and clutch feel is a personal preference and not all riders like the feel of flexi levers, we also developed a set of cold-forged aluminium levers with a very similar feel to the standard Kawasaki levers. The forging process makes these levers softer than OEM versions, so they will bend on impact rather than snap like most cast levers.
Foot Pegs
The foot pegs on the KX 250 F remained unchanged from 2006 to 2024, and for these models, we offer five options! 1. Titanium foot pegs - the premium choice for serious motocross riders (pictured below). These offer the ultimate balance of strength, weight savings, and performance. Factory Series foot pegs combine a lightweight aluminium base with a heavy-duty stainless steel tooth plate for enhanced strength and durability. 3. Racing Series foot pegs feature a lightweight aluminium body with individually mounted stainless steel teeth for excellent grip and performance. 4. Stainless Steel foot pegs are cast from high-grade stainless steel with no welds, making them exceptionally strong and durable. 5. Extra Large foot pegs, pictured below, are based on our Racing Series foot pegs, with an additional 12.5mm on each side. This increased surface area features 50 individual stainless steel teeth - 16 more than the standard Racing Series pegs.
Silicone Radiator Hoses
Our silicone radiator hoses are slightly thicker than the standard rubber hoses, with a 4.5mm wall thickness that makes them stronger and less vulnerable to damage out on the mx track. For the KX 250 F, we have them available in 5 colours - black (pictured below), green, red, blue and white. As with all silicone hose installations, we always advise pairing them with our stainless steel hose clips, which are specifically designed for silicone hoses and won’t damage them during installation like some OEM clips can.
Rear Brake Pedal & Gear Lever
We offer two rear brake lever and gear lever options for the Kawasaki KX 250 F. Our standard levers come in black with green anodised tips (shown in the picture below), with other tip colours available on request. The standard rear brake pedal features a spring-loaded, pivoting tip, designed to reduce the risk of damage during any impacts. For riders seeking a premium upgrade, we also offer our Factory Series gear lever and rear brake pedal kits. These levers feature a textured matt black anodised finish with grey tips for a refined, factory look - these have been fitted on our project bike and shown in the photos above and below. The brake pedal in this kit comes with a fixed tip that can be adjusted forward or backward to suit rider preference. Front Sprocket Guard
Our front sprocket guards are precision CNC-machined from durable yet lightweight 7009-T6 aluminium, offering far greater strength and resistance to damage compared to the standard plastic guards. Designed to keep mud and debris from clogging your chain and sprocket, these front sprocket covers will fit the 2017-2020 KX 250 F and the 2016-2018 KX 450 F. They are available anodised in black (shown in the photo below) or green, depending on your preference.
Rear Brake Disc Guard
Our rear brake disc guards for the KX 250 F are CNC machined from high-strength 6061 billet aluminium, offering maximum protection for your rear brake disc, without adding unnecessary weight. Each guard is equipped with a durable, heavy-duty plastic lower shield to deflect stones and debris, helping to prevent damage during mx practice or in a race. We have them available in black, pictured below, as well as in a sleek anodised green finish for added style.
Rear Brake Caliper Guard
We also offer 2 rear brake caliper guards for the KX 250 F and they are also CNC machined from billet aluminium to provide a perfect fit around the rear brake caliper, offering much greater strength and protection than the OEM plastic guards. They feature a smooth, polished anodised finish for a high-quality factory look - available in black, pictured below, or green. These caliper guards will fit 2004–2023 KX 250 F and 2006-2023 KX 450 F.
Skid Plate
All of our skid plates for mx bikes used to be made from aluminium, like the one shown on the KX 250 F in the photo below. We still offer these, however, after gathering feedback from motocross riders, we discovered a strong preference for plastic skid plates also. We therefore now offer both aluminium plus DTC plastic skid plates for various manufacturers, covering enduro and motocross. Rear Sprocket
Our AS3 Performance Factory Series rear sprocket has been fitted, shown in the photo below. They are engineered for durability and performance, combining the toughness of steel with the lightweight properties of aluminium. The outer ring is crafted from hardened, nickel-coated steel, offering up to three times the lifespan of a standard aluminium sprocket. The inner ring is made from high-strength 7075-T6 aircraft-grade aluminium, making it up to 50% lighter than traditional steel sprockets - the perfect balance of strength, weight, and longevity. We also offer a standard rear sprocket - these are CNC machined from high-quality 7075-T6 aluminium, offering a lightweight, durable design tested by top riders on the toughest tracks. Manufactured by a leading sprocket maker, they feature self-cleaning grooves. The latter rear sprocket is also available anodised in black or blue.
Chain Guide
We offer two chain guides for the KX 250 F. One features a durable anodised aluminium mounting bracket, available in black (pictured above) or green (pictured below), paired with a high-impact TPU plastic block. Chosen for its flexibility and elasticity, TPU resists deformation from impacts while maintaining its shape. The TPU blocks are replaceable and can be purchased separately from our website. The other chain guide is CNC machined from 6061-T6 aluminium for enhanced strength and durability - these guides feature tough plastic inserts that resist bending or buckling - unlike OEM or all-plastic versions. Both styles of chain guide fit the 2009-2020 KX 250 F, as well as the 2009-2018 KX 450 F.
Axle Blocks
AS3 Performance rear axle blocks are CNC machined from billet aluminium to ensure a precise fit in the swing arm and around the rear wheel spindle. The alignment scales on the top and bottom of each block help you accurately position the rear wheel. They feature a smooth anodised finish and we offer them in black or green (pictured below) for a clean factory look.
Brake Discs
AS3 Performance front and rear brake discs are engineered in collaboration with one of the world’s leading off-road brake disc manufacturers. Constructed from high-grade hardened stainless steel, they feature precision-cut ventilation slots to maintain optimal cooling and help remove debris. Designed for high-performance braking, these discs deliver strong stopping power, while minimising overall wear.
Front Brake Line Clamp
Fuel Cap
AS3 Performance fuel caps are CNC machined from 6061 billet aluminium, making them far stronger than OEM fuel caps and much less likely to split or leak. They feature a high-quality anodised finish and are supplied with a one-way breather vent. Available anodised in black, green, blue and red - in our opinion, they look much better than the black plastic OEM fuel cap and rubber hose vent.
Oil Filter Cover
The oil filter cover is an area on the right side of the engine that is left quite exposed on the KX 250 F. CNC-machined for strength and durability, our upgraded oil filter cover is built to withstand impacts from stones and debris kicked up by the front wheel. Ours are also far more robust than the OEM covers, helping to prevent oil leaks in the event of a strike on the area. This oil filter cover pictured below is available in black, green, blue or red and they fit the 2004-2020 KX 250 F models.
Anodised Accessories
In addition to performance upgrades and protective parts for the Kawasaki KX 250 F, we also offer a wide range of anodised accessories, including steering stem nuts, oil filler plugs, front and rear brake reservoir covers, master cylinder perch clamps, engine plugs and wheel spacers. All of these are CNC machined from 6061 billet aluminium, making them stronger than the cast OEM parts, but their main appeal is the way they enhance the look of the bike compared to standard components. Our billet accessories for the KX 250 F are available in black, green, with most parts also available in blue and red.
