AS3 Performance Weekly Round Up #29

Another 2nd Place For Jonny Walker

2024 SuperEnduro World Championship, Round 4, Cluj, Romania

Our supported Enduro Pro rider; Jonny Walker, claimed a fourth 2nd place overall in a row at the weekend. The Beta man, yet again, was beaten to 1st overall by his British counterpart; Husqvarna's Billy Bolt, the latter still feeling the injury he sustained to his leg at the last round in Germany. The track was very tight and described as a mouse-trap due to the amount of logs and layout creating a lot of funnelling and bottlenecks, bunching up the riders.

Race 1

Swedish Husqvarna rider; Eddie Karlsson, took the holeshot, after impressing with the fastest lap for the Superpole earlier in the evening. This was the first rider, other than Bolt or Walker to do so in all the 2024 rounds so far. The Swede ended up 5th overall on the night and seems to be improving with each round.

During Race 1, Bolt and Walker soon got in to the groove and were running P1 and P2, until Bolt jolted his injured leg on lap four and Walker went past on his Beta 300 RR to take the Win. Bolt managed to hold on for 2nd from KTM's German rider; Manuel Lettenbichler, who did well to round out the podium after falling at the start.

Race 2

In the second race, Mitch Brightmore on his GasGas led for a while, before Bolt and Walker past him. Unbelievably, Bolt then crashed, demoting him to P5, letting Walker pull away in P1. However, Husqvarna's Bolt doesn't know what quit is and started to pick off the riders in front of him, fighting through the pain of his injured leg. It looked like he would have to settle for another P2, but Jonny dropped his Beta on the last lap, allowing Bolt to sweep past and claim the Win. With Walker 2nd, Poland's Dominik Olszowy had a great race; the Rieju rider coming home P3.

Race 3

The Swedish rider; Eddie Karlsson, took his second holeshot of the night in Race 3. However, Bolt, Walker and KTM's Mani Lettenbichler closely followed and were soon past Karlsson and battling for the Win. It was thought Bolt might struggle in the last race due to his injury, but it was in fact the opposite. The Husqvarna man put the hammer down and pulled away, winning by some margin over Walker in P2 and Lettenbichler in P3. This meant Lettenbichler also secured 3rd overall in Cluj. After the half-way point in the Championship, the standings are as follows: Bolt sits 19 points clear of Beta's Jonny Walker, who has a fair bit of a points advantage to Lettenbichler in P3. Will Hoare, who has just signed for Rieju, is now 7 points adrift of Lettenbichler, in P4.

Jonny gave his thoughts on Round 4: "The track was tight and technical tonight... after I messed up the Superpole I was determined to try and get good starts and give Billy a fight... In the first race I was in a good spot and I managed to win... I felt happy with that but I knew I’d be on the wrong side of the gate for the reverse grid in Race 2 and it wasn’t easy... Billy is a machine... he got the better of me in the end... A difficult night for all of us physically with this layout, but I feel like I’m improving with each round".

A big Well Done to our Supported Rider; Jonny Walker, on another fantastic 2nd place in the World Champs!. We look forward to seeing how he does at Round 5 of the 2024 FIM SuperEnduro World Championship, in Budapest, Hungary on 3rd February.
