2006 Honda CR 250 Two Stroke | Jett Lawrence Tribute

Complete Rebuild Of A 2006 Honda CR 250 With Modern Graphics And A Familiar Number

Imagine watching Jett Lawrence rip around Fox Raceway wide open on a CR 250 2 stroke? This and the fact that Jett had just completed the perfect outdoors season, winning every race in the 450 AMA Pro motocross championship, was some of the inspiration behind the lastest bike build project by Andy Wells of Wells Motoworx, Canada. As with Andy's previous projects - a Corvette Stingray inspired Suzuki RM 250 and a complete restoration of a previously sorry looking Honda CR 500 - he completely rebuilt this CR 250 from the ground up, restoring what he could and adding some performance enhancing parts along the way. We dive in to the project below and feature details and close up photos of the AS3 Performance parts he used in his most recent CR 250 motocross bike rebuild.

Front Brake Line

To improve the performance of the front brake the rubber OEM front brake hose has been exchanged for one of our stainless steel braided front brake lines. These lines have a PVC outer cover which retains the look of the OEM hose (especially in black) but underneath you're getting all the performance benefits of a braided stainless steel brake line. They also feature a plastic protective sheath that many other braided brake line manufacturers don't include on their lines, again this is to remain in line with the specifications of the OEM hose. This brake line is available in either red (as shown in the photo below) or black. We feel the red looks perfect against the red plastics and graphics and adds a modern touch to a classic older motocross bike. The 2006 CR 250 front brake line covers all models between 1995-2008 plus some of the early CRF 250 R and CRF 450 R four stroke models.

Rear Brake Line

The rear brake has also received the same upgrade and in the same colour as the front, with one of our red braided rear brake lines being installed on the bike. The red plastic sheath and the black heat shrinks on the brake lines compliment the black wheels with red spoke nipples as shown on the photo below. All of our brake lines have the added feature of being able to adjust the banjo angle, enabling you to get perfect alignment on the master cylinder and brake caliper. Our braided brake lines are really popular with Honda motocross riders as they all come as standard with rubber brake hoses. Our rear brake lines are available in red or black for the 2006 Honda CR 250 with the complete fitment ranging between 2002-2008. The same brake line also fits the CR 125 over the same years.

Rear Brake Reservoir Cover

You will have noticed that some of the components on the CR 250 have been cerakoted which is a ceramic based coating used to protect and enhance the look of various metals. It is becoming incredibly popular with motocross restorations as it can breath new life in to tired looking parts. This explains why the master cylinder in the photo below is a brown gold colour. To complete the look of the restored master cylinder it has been fitted with one of our black anodised billet aluminium rear brake reservoir covers, which looks great in contrast to the cerakoted master cylinder. All of our reservoir covers are anodised to prevent corrosion and enhance the finish. They are CNC machined for a perfect fit and a cost effective upgrade for any motorcycle. Available anodised in red too for the Honda CR models, they fit the CR 250 from 2002 to 2008.

Rear Axle Blocks

The rear axle blocks have also been changed from the standard OEM blocks to a set of our billet aluminium axle blocks. These are one of two different types of axle blocks that we offer for the Honda CR 250 and they have nickel plated steel adjustment bolts incorporated in to each side which helps with quicker and more accurate wheel alignment. The others are installed similar to the OEM parts and use the OEM adjuster bolts in the same way but are a stronger CNC machined billet aluminium upgrade. Both sets of axle blocks are available in a choice of black or red. The black version being installed on the 2006 CR 250 to match the CMT Compositi carbon rear disc guard and rear caliper guard.
