Bolts to Motor

This skid plate would easily earn a 5 star review. It appears to be well made. It is heavy duty aluminum and provides great coverage. Installation was straight forward. All holes lined up and the hardware is good quality. Fit and finish is excellent and it looks great on the bike. The ordering process, shipping and general customer service was excellent. The skid plate arrived at my door (USA) within 3 days. I had a question which received a response from customer service within about 16 hours. So at this point, I'd call it 5 star. The issue however is that the skid plate attaches to the bottom of the oil pan and engine side cases. I couldn't tell from the images on the website, so I was a little surprised when I saw how it all bolts up. (Most plates that I have seen attach to the frame in some way.) I was afraid that impact to the plate would transfer straight to the engine. Thinking that maybe I was overthinking things, I emailed customer service hoping for reassurance that R&D had done their due diligence. Customer service responded immediately, but referred me to their design team who never responded. I sent another email which also went unanswered. I generally take it easy when riding off road (or on for that matter), so it is probably more than sufficient. Shipping to the USA was pretty expensive, so I don't really want to send it back. I also think this plate provides some of the most extensive coverage. If it doesn't protect the bike however, what good is it.
